People are so much more aware of their effect on nature reflected in their carbon footprint than they have ever been. We have come to realize that the things we do everyday affect what life, and the world, will be like tomorrow, and for coming generations. In today’s world, we are incredibly dependent on fossil fuels for our everyday function despite knowing that they are harmful to the environment. We have also come to understand what they do to the environment, but we have yet to phase them out of use. There are a wide range of reasons why we are still using fossil fuels.
Unfortunately, whether we want to admit it or not, fossil fuels are the best forms of energy we have available to us. They are energy dense due to the fact that they are made by the decaying of organic material for millions of years. They have been formed into dense balls of energy that are ripe for the burning. A small amount of fossil fuels provide a lot of energy, in comparison to the size.
They are already made, they just need to be harvested. They are created by the earth and do not need to be converted in any way. They are ready to be used as soon as they come out of the ground. Some of them, like petroleum, are converted into other forms so that they may be used in different types of industries and machines. The convenience and the ease of use of these fuels is what really makes them a natural choice for energy use.
Our society has been shaped for the use of these fuels. We have relied on them for over 200 years and we have built our world around using fossil fuels. Everything is built around fossil fuels from our homes to our vehicles, and our industries to our machinery, everything is set up around them.
In order to be able to turn a construction company into a bus like a solar company in Erie, CO, we will need to create a new revolution. The industrial revolution was one of the most world-changing revolutions ever and it was built off of coal. In order to convert to alternative fuels, like solar power, we will need to have a revolution as big as the industrial revolution. It will need to be a revolution that is as world changing and earth-shaking that it will change everything. There are still a lot of things that need to be figured out about alternative fuels, such as how to make them efficient and cost-effective for everything. We are finally beginning to make the push for big changes.
